Fund for Greater Lexington Projects

HOW DO WE IDENTIFY PROJECTS?

A series of stakeholder interviews yielded valuable insight into unique opportunities and challenges across our five pillars: Cultural Access, Green Spaces, Youth, Transportation, and Affordable Housing.

Combined with our own criteria, this process provided a foundation for selecting transformative, sustainable projects with the potential to have the greatest impact on quality of life in Lexington.

The Fund for Greater Lexington’s commitment to a brighter future is exemplified by the initial projects selected for a total of approximately $650,000 of funding. Learn more about these projects:

Arts Center Incubation

A Vision for the Future

Lexington is ready to lead. For 250 years, the city has thrived as a historic, dynamic hub. Today, we stand at a pivotal moment to shape the next century of growth, creativity, and prosperity.

To unlock Lexington’s potential, FGL has allocated nearly $250,000 to incubate an innovative arts center. This state-of-the-art facility would include both a 2,500 seat flexible performance space and a world-class visual arts gallery. An independent, FGL-funded, two-phase feasibility study by Sound Diplomacy confirmed both the need and financial viability of a new arts center, based on market research, national benchmarking, and input from more than 1,000 Lexington residents and stakeholders.

The conclusion: Lexington can and should build a world-class performing and visual arts center to serve as a cultural catalyst for the city and region. Please see the slide decks below for more information on Phases One and Two of the feasibility study.

Kelley’s Landing

Kelley’s Landing + Fund for Greater Lexington

In May 2022, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) purchased 30 acres of undeveloped land along the Kentucky River off Old Richmond Road from the Kelley family. The site, which has been named Kelley’s Landing, includes significant green space, wooded areas, and direct access to the Kentucky River.

An investment of $175,000 has been allocated by the Fund for Greater Lexington (FGL) to catalyze the development of Kelley’s Landing. This allocation supports the hiring of Gresham Smith to lead development of the master plan, which will include community engagement, planning, design, and much more.

We are building a $30M endowment in the next 5 years.
