Grassroots Leadership Awards

Presented by the Lexington Black Prosperity Initiative, a community-advised committee of Blue Grass Community Foundation, the Grassroots Leadership Awards honor community leaders who are creating lasting, positive change across Lexington. Since 2021, these awards have recognized individuals advancing racial equity, social justice and opportunity through grassroots efforts.

2026 Grassroots Leadership Awards

Do you know someone whose work is making a real difference in Lexington’s Black community? The Lexington Black Prosperity Initiative is now accepting nominations for the 2026 Grassroots Leadership Awards.

These awards celebrate local changemakers, recognizing people who lead from the ground up, speak out for justice and work every day to build a more equitable, prosperous Lexington. Honorees receive a $5,000 unrestricted stipend in recognition of their impact.

Who’s eligible:
  • Nominee must live in Lexington or serve as a volunteer or professional leader of a program, project or nonprofit that benefits Black communities in Lexington
  • Their work should focus on racial justice, equity, or prosperity in the Black community
  • Self-nominations are not accepted
  • Previous recipients are not eligible
  • LBPI’s volunteer Board of Advisors will select up to three honorees

Deadline to nominate: Monday, January 5, 2026, at midnight
