Nationally, we’re facing significant challenges in news and information. As local newsrooms have disappeared across America, communities have witnessed fading civic engagement, eroding social bonds, surging misinformation and dwindling governmental accountability.

At Blue Grass Community Foundation, we envision a community where all residents of the Bluegrass thrive and feel a sense of belonging. Achieving this requires meaningful connections that enable people to work together, share reliable information and take coordinated action to promote sustained growth and wellbeing across our region.

That’s why we launched Press Forward Blue Grass, a bold initiative that deepens our commitment to strengthening democracy and fostering civic engagement in Central Kentucky.

What is Press Forward?

Press Forward is a national movement to reinvigorate local news and information as a cornerstone of democracy. Backed by a coalition of funders, this transformative initiative is investing in information ecosystems to:

• Strengthen local newsrooms.
• Close gaps in journalism coverage.
• Advance public policies that ensure access to local news.
• Build the infrastructure needed for local news to thrive.

Through Press Forward Blue Grass, we’re bringing this momentum to our region, ensuring that reliable, community-centered news empowers residents and strengthens our collective future. Press Forward Locals are a network of 31 chapters across the country that are bringing donors and foundations together to expand resources for local news. These chapters are an opportunity for funders to create place-based initiatives, driven by the specific information needs of their communities.
